The two layers possibly were glued together. The sheet is then dried under pressure. After drying, the sheet is polished with some rounded object, possibly a stone or seashell or round hardwood. Sheets could be cut to fit the obligatory size or glued together to create a longer roll. A wooden stick would be attached to the last sheet in a roll, making it easier to handle.

There are rarely opportunities to earn extra credit, so it is vitally important that students complete assignments on time and turn them in. MSA's are considered homework and worth 10 points the value of a regular assignment towards a student's grade.
Most other non-academic paper work has lesser point values. Students who consistently score below average less than a "C" will be given opportunities to improve their grades via corrections or extensions of the assignment.
